All the with express purpose of using 21st century skills to create solutions for a more sustainable, peaceful, and culturally-aware world community.

Dr. Denise R. Ames ...
i
s the founder and director of the Center for Global Awareness. She is a  life-long educator with over 20 years teaching experience at universities, a community college, and secondary schools. She received her doctorate in world history/social studies education at Illinois State University and  has taught academic courses in Global Issues/Globalization, World and United States history, Western Civilization, Cultural Studies, and humanities.

Her current teaching and research is dedicated to the development of the Global Awareness Program series, GAPs, a globally-focused, alternative curriculum for educators, secondary school students and college undergraduates. The centerpiece of the series is the (forthcoming) book  Waves of Global Change: A Holistic World History. Along with curriculum development she conducts professional development workshops nationally and internationally.

She has two adult children and lives in the bucolic North Valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.

Nancy W. Harmon (M.A.)
has recently joined with Denise in expanding the services and products offered by the Center for Global Awareness. She has been an educator for more than 30 years with a MA degree in multicultural education from University of New Mexico and certification in English and English as a Second Language. She has taught and developed curriculum in a variety of situations, including a community school on the Navajo reservation, teacher training for Peace Corps in Eritrea, an environmental studies graduate program taught in English in Bangkok, Thailand, and most recently, an innovative charter school in Albuquerque where she also implemented service learning.

Nancy and Denise first met at a globalization study group in 2003. They met again while serving on the board of directors for a non-profit called PeacePal in Albuquerque in 2007. They both were involved in curriculum design at PeacePal. Their common interests and desire to continue to serve the educational community led them to join together to expand the services of the Center for Global Awareness as a non-profit organization.
