Global Education
Professional development workshops, seminars,
and courses for educators offered by Dr. Denise R. Ames
The Mission of Global Awareness
Education is...
to contribute to a deeper
understanding and appreciation of the interdependency of diverse cultures,
economies, societies, ecosystems, history, and peoples of the world. The
program focuses on a broad range of interdependent issues that challenge
our rapidly changing world. It is the goal of the program that with
a greater understanding of innovative teaching methodologies, activities,
and knowledge we will be able to encourage the development of a more
globally and ecologically aware student who will actively participate in
fashioning a global community in which questions of ethics and social
justice are given priority, sustainable economic development is
encouraged, connection to the earth and place is promoted, and exposure to
diverse worldviews and ideologies is realized.
Global Awareness Educational Services ...
are
arranged into three areas.
1. Professional Development and Consulting Services
2. Global Awareness Lectures, Academics Course, Workshops, and
Keynotes

essential 21st century skills--a global perspective, awareness of cultural
diversity, collaborative project-based learning, critical think and
systems thinking skills, and a holistic approach to history. In keeping with
national standards, educators are
challenged to apply these new ideas and concepts into thought-provoking
and practical lesson plans.

3. Global Awareness Program
series (GAPs)
(click on GAPs link
to see full titles)
The mission of GAPs is ...
to provide a globally-focused, and culturally-enhancing, alternative educational curriculum that
fills in the "gaps" of traditional educational subjects.
The GAPs Curriculum ...
consists of engaging short readers of about 50-100 pages and the
book-length survey Waves of Global Change: A Holistic World History. The curriculum is designed for educators, students in grades
8-12, college undergraduates, and the general reading public. This
thought-provoking and timely series systematically explores a range of
critical global issues, engaging cross-cultural topics, and holistic
approaches to history. The series has teacher resources
guides, activities, and student workbooks.
GAPS
author...
is educator Dr. Denise R. Ames, draws upon her extension teaching
experience, a global perspective, and careful research
in developing this alternative, systems-thinking approach to global
issues, history, and cross-cultural topics.
Who is the audience for the GAPs
curriculum?
The GAPs curriculum is thoughtfully designed for
educators and students who wish to develop a holistic, alternative approach to their
social studies curriculum or other programs. Educators will find this curriculum especially
helpful in teaching about current events, cross-cultural topics, holistic
world history, and globalizing their curriculum. Students will find this
approach links topics such as history to their everyday lives in a
meaningful way.
When will the
GAPs be available?
The target completion date for Global Waves of Change: A Holistic
World History and the accompanying teacher resources guide is 2010.
Fees will be very reasonable for the GAPs curriculum,
please contact Denise Ames for more information.
