It is necessary to provide a context for the overwhelming global changes sweeping the world today. But how can these rapid and complex changes be clearly and intelligently communicated to our students? This workshop, especially designed for educators, helps sort out the broad sweep of life-altering global changes transforming our world today that are influencing every aspect of our daily lives. Using a systems approach, we carefully examine critical issues such as the economic crisis, environmental devastation, and interaction with the world community in a balanced, understandable manner. We spend considerable time developing imaginative and practical methods for implementing these new concepts into the classroom.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants are challenged to …

·      evaluate and connect one’s own worldview with four worldviews or perspectives held by billions of people

·      examine the forces of globalization sweeping the world, with an emphasis on economic globalization

·      analyze factors necessary for economic globalization and connect these factors to the changing role of education

·      integrate critical thinking and problem solving skills; communication, creativity and innovation skills; collaborative abilities; contextual learning; and information and media literacy skills -- with global awareness materials.

·      dialogue about the impact of these changes and alternatives for our shared future

Participants come away with …

·      a more in-depth global understanding of the forces of change altering our lives today

·      practical ways to apply global awareness into the classroom setting

·      specific materials and methods for use in the classroom
